Marco Gallarino – CV in English

Marco Gallarino (born in Milan on April 7, 1975) conducts research in the fields of philosophy, history of medieval philosophy, Italian literature, esoteric traditions, and both Eastern and Western spirituality. He holds a Master’s Degree in Philosophy and a Ph.D. in Philosophy. After graduating summa cum laude in Philosophy (a four-year degree according to the previous educational regulations prior to Ministerial Decree No. 509 of November 3, 1999, equivalent to a master’s degree) at the University of Milan with a thesis in Medieval Philosophy History titled “Dante and the Liber de causis” (supervisor Prof. Mariateresa Fumagalli Beonio Brocchieri), he obtained a university degree for a one-year course in Basic Methodologies of Informatics and Communication for the Humanities.

He was a scholarship holder (fellow) at the Italian Institute for Historical Studies in Naples, founded by Benedetto Croce, during the academic years 2002/03 and 2003/04; since 2004 he attended the Ph.D. program in Philosophy at the University of Milan, under the supervision of Professor Mariateresa Fumagalli Beonio Brocchieri, obtaining his doctoral degree (Ph.D. Degree) on January 18, 2008, discussing a thesis titled “The Metaphysical Foundation of Dante Alighieri’s Philosophical Thought. Matter and Information in the Cosmological and Cosmogonic Context of the Theme of Angelic Fall”. In 2004, he received the “Arrigo Pacchi Award”, issued by the same University and dedicated to thesis works on topics in the field of the history of philosophy.

Since that year, he has been collaborating in teaching and research activities at the Chair of Medieval Philosophy History at the University of Milan, and in this context he obtained the qualification of “Cultore della Materia” (subject expert / scholar), conducted teaching activities, has been part of examination committees, and participated in two interuniversity research projects (PRIN). From 2007 to 2010, he regularly attended the lessons of the doctoral course in “Philosophy, Sciences, and Culture of Late Antiquity, Medieval, and Humanistic Ages”, at the University of Salerno. From 2010 to 2014, he worked as an administrative collaborator at the Teaching Secretariat of the Faculty (then School) of Medicine and Surgery at the University of Milan-Bicocca.

Since 2005 he has been a member of the SISPM (“Italian Society for the Study of Medieval Thought”) and since 2009 of the “Italian Dante Society” (“Società Dantesca Italiana”). During his research activities, he has participated in conferences and scientific seminars and has published several studies on Dante Alighieri’s philosophical thought. In the academic year 2016/17, he was an adjunct professor at the University of Milan and conducted a workshop course titled “Cosmological and Cosmogonic Models in Some Cathar Writings”. Since 2014, he was a teacher of Literary Disciplines in Italian State high school and since 2024 he has been a teacher of Philosophy and History, always in Italian State high school. In 2023, by decree of the President of the Italian Republic, he was awarded the honour of Knight of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic (“Cavaliere dell’Ordine al Merito della Repubblica Italiana”).
